Introduction

Dr Michael Truelove is a specialist anaesthetist working alongside Dr Rhys Clark’s surgical team. Your anaesthetist is responsible for keeping you safe and comfortable throughout your operation, and for the pain relief that supports your recovery immediately afterwards.

Pre-operative preparation

Before your surgery, your anaesthetist’s rooms will be in touch to complete a health questionnaire so that your anaesthetic can be planned safely. You will be given instructions covering preparation for the day, including fasting requirements and guidance on any medications you take regularly.

If you have had an anaesthetic before — particularly if you experienced nausea, difficulty waking, or any other reaction — it is worth mentioning at that point, as it will be taken into account when planning your anaesthetic.
